Dams in the country represent a major investment and huge benefits to population in terms of irrigation, power, and flood control. Most of the big dams are very old and regular monitoring and maintenance of these dams is of utmost importance for continuing benefits. The last decade has seen tremendous development in terms of tools and technologies for dam investigations, instrumentation, repair, and rehabilitation. Dam safety act 2021 has come in force, which will have a significant impact on dam safety mechanisms and how dams are maintained. The Act provides for surveillance, inspection, operation, and maintenance of the specified dam for prevention of dam failure related disasters and provides for institutional mechanism to ensure their safe functioning and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto. The provision of the act also lays onus of dam safety on the dam owner and provides for penal provisions for commission and omission of certain acts. The purpose of this workshop is to make the participant aware as to how various latest techniques are applicable to solve various issues related to dams. The interactive workshop will focus on specific issues of participating organizations.
Objectives
In the event of a dam failure, the economic loss as well as the potential hazard to life and property could be enormous. With new dam construction becoming challenging due to various issues including environmental activism, it's becoming increasingly important to maintain and rehabilitate existing structures.
